Tijuana Guitar Quartet
Biography
Jose Rodriguez  holds a Bachelor's and Master's in Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he studied with David Tanenbaum. He is now a Faculty member of the School of Arts at the University (UABC) in Ensenada, B.C. and teaches privately in Tijuana and San Diego. Along his solo recitals, Jose performs frequently with violinist Thomas Yee and together they released the CD recording “Historia” Tangos, Spanish dances, jazz and more. He began his musical studies at the EMNO in Casa de la Cultura de Tijuana, and in 1996 he continued at the Centro Hispanoamericano de Guitarra and at the Conservatorio de la Orquesta de Baja California, in Tijuana, Mexico, where his teachers included Carlos Patiño, Francisco Guerrero and Cuban guitarist Teresa Madiedo. In August 1998 Rodriguez won third place in Mexico’s Concurso Nacional de Guitarra, which was held in Paracho, Michoacan. In 2005 Rodriguez won the biannual Guitar Concerto Competition held at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where in the same year he earned his Bachelor’s of Music and received the only Guitar Honors award. In 2006 Rodriguez performed Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Guitar Concerto No.1 with the SFCM Orchestra and released his first CD recording “Diario 2003” with music by Mexican composer Alberto Ubach. He has taken part in masterclasses with such world renowned guitarists as Costas Cotsiolis, Leo Brouwer, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, and Zoran Dukic.
